Bellwether reports first rise in budgets for 18 months

Marketers have increased their budgets for the first time in 18 months, according to the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising's Q3 Bellwether Report, released today.The quarterly survey of marketing spend reveals a modest upward revision to budgets - with online ads and direct marketing having the strongest gains - and marks an end to budget cuts seen in the past five quarters.

Beverley Churchill, marketing director of embattled department store chain Bhs, has left the company after just a year in the role. It is unclear whether Churchill resigned from the post or if she has a job to go to, but her departure is a further blow to the retail empire of Sir Philip Green. She has not yet been replaced.

Leafing through Campaign's direct marketing supplement last week, the Diary was surprised to stumble across a feature that appeared to come from an unlikely source. The photo accompanying the article seemed to be of TV makeover duo Trinny and Susannah, but on closer inspection it transpired the pair were actually the creative and managing directors of Proximity London, Caitlin Ryan and Amanda Phillips.
