British Gas reveals EnergySmart proposition

British Gas has revealed it is to launch a monthly billing system in a bid to help customers control their energy use supported by a £5m marketing campaign.

The EnergySmart proposition will let customers provide their own energy readings online or by text each month and will not have to rely on British Gas estimates to calculate their energy bills.

The proposition will roll out this week and the campaign uses the strapline “Hello EnergySmart, goodbye estimated bills”, created by CHI & Partners.

British Gas will send customers a monthly reminder when a meter reading is due.

The company has also revealed it will launch an animated Christmas campaign reiterating that its engineers are available 365 days a year, including Christmas Day.

The Christmas campaign builds on the energy supplier’s “Your World is your Home” campaign, created by CHI and follows a winter campaign which targeted non-customers to push the message that they don’t have to be a British Gas customer to call out one of its engineers in an emergencies.

  • Energy Smart is all very good but Brit Gas do not indicate how it will effect existing users say on Websaver 3 as I am, I have asked them to advise costs/savings if I change and await their response

They don't mention it as unfortunately you can't have EnergySmart if you're on a Websaver tariff.

Whilst it's a good idea, it's a shame they don't offer the monitor on their cheapest tariffs - people on cheaper tariffs are the ones who bothered to shop around in the first place, so in my opinion are the ones most likely to make the most of the monitor!

You can still buy a monitor elsewhere for around £30 if you're really keen.
