DMA managing director to leave

The Direct Marketing Association managing director James Kelly is set to depart, as the industry body continues a major organisational restructure.

Last month, the DMA announced that it would start the next stage of its organisational restructuring plan following the conclusion of a year long strategic review

The changes will see the creation of a dual management structure. Management responsibilities will be shared jointly between a chief of operations and a chief of membership and brand.

The former will manage the organisation’s day-to-day operations, while the latter will serve as the public ‘face’ of the DMA and manage its relationship with its members, government and stakeholders.

The two roles are yet to be filled.

As a result, the position of managing director has been made redundant. It is not known if Kelly has a job to go to.

He joined the DMA in 2000 as chief operating officer and was promoted to the role of managing director in April 2002.

David Metcalfe, DMA chairman, says: Under James’ direction, a compliance function was established, regional activity was increased with the setting up of offices in the West and the North of England, and new councils were established for emerging direct marketing channels such as email and mobile.”
