“Misleading” Living Social promotion banned

A Living Social ad offering a discount sales promotion at Vistprint has been banned for exaggerating the savings offered.

The online ad, shown in July, offered £40 worth of printing and office supplies - such as business cards, t-shirts, invitations and photobooks - for £10.

However, when used, all discounted items returned to full-price and a consumer complained that it was misleading because it exaggerated the savings.

Living Social says that all necessary information was provided for customers to make an informed choice about whether or not to purchase the coupon, and its terms and conditions stated that: “This is a one-time use coupon - not valid in conjunction with any other offer or discounts.”

The ASA has ruled that the promotion was misleading because it “was not sufficiently clear”.
