Carlsberg unleashes England “Team talk” ad

Carlsberg, the official beer of the England football team, has unveiled its World Cup ad that features a panoply of sporting stars and can be seen by clicking into this story.

The 90 second ad includes appearances from Sir Trevor Brooking, Nigel Benn, Jack Charlton, Stuart Pearce, Dame Ellen MacArthur, Phil ’The Power’ Taylor, Ian Botham and adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

The ad, created by Saatchi & Saatchi, will run until the end of June and is part of Carlsberg UK’s wider campaign to inspire the England team this summer.

Since February, the brewer has been asking fans to show their support by creating their own “team talks” and the ad delivers the brewer’s own rousing speech with the strapline “Probably the best team talk in the world…”

Paul Davies, director of brands and insight at Carlsberg UK, says “This ad has been in the making for months and we hope it can help deliver some additional inspiration for the England team and the fans. Pulling the shoot together was an impressive undertaking and it was a real honour to bring all of these sporting heroes together.”

Paul Silburn, executive creative partner, Saatchi & Saatchi, adds “Through it’s sponsorship of the England team Carlsberg is in a unique position during the tournament. So we also see this is a unique ad in that its target audience is just eleven men - the eleven players who will step onto the pitch to represent the hopes and prayers of the other 49 million English men and women. It’s our ambition that the team will watch the ad and draw inspiration and motivation from it. “

The advert was filmed at the ’The Den’, the home of Millwall FC and the cast members also appear in some behind the scenes filming and interviews that can also be seen at www.englandteamtalk.com.

  • Nice advert, however I always think there is a slight irony that Carlsberg is the official beer of the England team and it is of course Danish....

  • I am not sure I would choose Stuart Pearce as a good example of giving the best team talk ever... I also thought the premise that giving examples of English winners from other sporting genre (especially when they represented us as members of Team GB at the Olympics really) such as round the world sailing, does not work well. I like the POV and I like Charlton and Brooking but the rest seemed too clever and too expensive and lacked the simple clarity of the Carlsberg message, and I am really to believe that the Dans feel that passionately about England's footballing success...?

  • I'm not an England supporter but fair play if they do well this time round, however Carlsberg's beer won't be on my world cup beer shopping list this summer. Far to cheesy, a bit of an own goal advert, unbelievably bad.

  • I think this advert really hits the mark. Yes it's a bit OTT but just enjoy it. Featuring a lot of England greats past & present, if this doesn't fire you up, then nothing will. Good luck England !!
