Football League signs 'innovative' betting deal
Bookmaker Bet Butler is to donate a share of the money fans bet on Football League matches with their clubs after signing a two-year deal to become the League’s official betting and gaming provider.
It means that over 80 teams playing in the Championship, League One and League Two will benefit when a fan places a bet. It is not known what percentage they will receive.
Football League chiefs say the “innovative partnership” will allow clubs to “benefit directly” from their fans betting activity.
The initiative is likely to be welcomed by the teams and their supporters after research earlier this year revealed one in five sides playing across the Football League’s three competitions are in poor financial health.
The Football League, which distributes the money it collects from sponsors and broadcasters to member clubs, has also ramped up its efforts to increase its global revenues.
