The big brand loyalty theory is history

Brand loyalty is a fickle thing and certain products will be swapped out of the basket when confronted with deals and promotions. However, each individual has their own 'must have it' brand that they will not go without. The staple, the always in the cupboard, the one they will not swap out. Surely deals are a way of finding more of these customers for the brand and driving consumer routine?
