What's not to like with affiliate marketing? If the affiliate doesn't deliver, you don't pay them - it's the ultimate in performance-related pay. The only thing that surprises me about affiliate marketing is how many companies allow their brand to be associated with low-quality sites. Sky wouldn't dream of advertising in a sixth-former's home-photocopied rag mag, but for a lot of companies if they closely audited their affiliates - instead of only ever looking at the top 10 per cent of fee earners, for example - they'd find their ads being carried on all kinds of low-grade tosh. Cheap, probably harmless, but potentially brand-destroying.
