Unilever to axe Persil washing up brand

Unilever is to axe its Persil washing up liquid brand as part of a drive to “rationalize” its product range.

The fmcg company says that the Persil washing up liquid brand is the only brand it will discontinue and the Persil laundry detergent brand will not be affected.

The decision to cut the brand is part of Unilever’s plans to reduce its range of SKUs by 40% by the end of the year.

The company says it aims to “take the complexity out” of its product portfolio and focus on improving customer service and its 100 top-selling brands.

The company is also reducing the number of different pack sizes and variants within brand ranges, and has cut the number of pack sizes available in the Knorr stock cube range from 26 to 11.

It is not yet known when range will go off-sale.

Last week Unilever reported a 35% drop in net profit despite registering strong sales and volume growth in the third quarter.

  • I am so disappointed this product is being discontinued-it is the only washing up liquid I really like-no wonder I have not been able to find it in any supermarket-seems everything I like there is "no call for"(I am told this repeatedly and am quite frankly sick of it-you can't make a product popular if it is not on the shelves to buy!!!!

  • i think it is appalling that Persil Washing Up liquid has been discontinued. It was the best of all the washing up liquids and now i am left trying to find a replacement of equal quality - so far unsuccessfully. Shame on you Unilever not even an announcement on the withdrawal.

  • Clearly a product well liked but you can blame Fairy and P&G for them taking it off sale (they have promoted the category too hard in recent years and there is little value left in it long term). Q here is would you prefer to have Persil, PG Tips, Flora etc on sale and always available or PWUL on sale?

  • I totally agree, Persil washing up liquid was by far the best on the market, with a decent range of fragrances and an average price. Now what???

  • It's only washing up liquid its not like they have withdrawn a cure for cancer.

How did everyone cope before in a world without Persil washing up liquid?

Maybe you should get your Local MP to bring it up in PM's Questions...

  • I am both angry and disappointed to discover Unilever has discontinued their Persil washing up liquid which I have used for years and so far have been unable to find a suitable alternative. Shame on you Unilever to treat your customers in this way.
This is all about money and not customer service.
